I get these are some people’s second car, it is mine, but how over the course of 3 owners and 15 years did !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! not manage to get more then 36k miles on it. I’ve been a little guilty of not driving my second car more, but they should be driven.

Bring a trailer is shit now, used to be a great place to find dope obscure project cars. Not it’s just another venue for people to hopelessly overpay for Porsches and BMW E30 M3s

Comment section is still fun though

SOme people just flat out don’t drive much, or like you said it’s their second car.

My ‘03 RSX had 32k when I bought it. It’s a shame though that they sit. Cars like that deserve to be driven, I bet that M3 has never even been close to redline.

Because some people are hoarders/collectors. I took this photo 3 years ago, but at the time, those 4 cars had a grand total mileage under 30k.

Because I like to shop for cars I already own, I pay attention to their prices E9X M3s go for. I was very interested in what this one went for because it’s basically identical to my car, apart from the DCT and year. I thought it went for cheap.

We do seem to lament the demise of BAT here sometimes.

I wonder if I should have gotten one of those.

The photo was taken at a dealer in November 2014- Perillo BMW in Chicago. I think the cheapest one at the time was listed close to $60k. Two of them had under 10k miles - one of them (first black one I think) had 2,900 miles and they wanted $70k for it.

But we were picking up my wife’s car and I was snooping around and walked around a corner - and was just stunned to see FOUR 1M’s sitting next to each other.

I don’t know why people just let them sit. That said I’ve only put 4k miles on my M3 since March. I regularly take mine to red line, think I hit fuel cut off in second on the highway last weekend.

Yup, the classifieds on R3v are ridiculous because of what some e30s have gone for on BaT. This guy wants 10k for his 325is. Which he himself says

“Doesn’t have head studs so since the rebuild I’ve replaced the head gasket twice times because I had small leaks and the head lifts very slightly right behind the headers. Not a big deal but it is a thing.” Lol ok.

The trend I’ve noticed is

If made before 2006, will go for over value due to those cars being reduced to rust in states that salt
If made after 2006, will probably sell under value. Doesn’t appear to be a good venue to sell newer iron.

You could get them for around 50k in 2014. Carmax even had some. I was thinking about one because I was having a hard time finding an M3 and they were in my price range and I knew they weren’t really going to depreciate. The thing is I would have had to sell it for depreciation to matter. The M3 was the dream though. Probably a future classic, not that it really matters to me. Low mileage 6MT E90s seem to be scarce these days and seem to change hands quickly.

That seems like an accurate assessment.

If I had the money I would overpay for a mid-2000s M car, since that’s what I wanted when I was in high school. I realize I could have gotten one when I got my M3, but I wanted it to be perfect and I didn’t feel like fixing everything on a 10 year old car.

You on the east coast?

If so, would be worth a fly out west to one of the cities and buy one cheap. Generally they are well kept, and since we don’t see rust they are plentiful.

After seeing Mr. Regular sell an OK condition MR2 for over $9k, a few friends and I bought a couple that we’re refurbishing just for sale on BAT. I can get sub 100k mile MR2s here in portland all day long for under $1500.

$50k was about right at that time. Perillo’s cars were all above market - presumably a combination of them all being very low mileage and them not trying very hard to sell them.

The thing about a 1M though is that you’d probably enjoy it less - not because it’s not a great car, but because you’d naturally worry more about maintaining it as a collector car - avoiding racking up miles, etc.

BaT is still a great place to gawk at time-capsule 1st-gen Miatas and Integra Type-Rs that I can’t have.

Doesn’t sound like they were trying to sell them.

They made 1055 LCI E90 M3s with a 6MT, for the North American market. My car isn’t exactly common either and being the last N/A M3 and the only one with a V8 will probably make it somewhat collectible. I don’t think I would have a problem putting miles on it, mainly cause a lot of miles doesn’t seem to adversely affect their value.

Also after driving a 1M, I know I prefer my car. That V8 is something special. I know I made the right choice.

I live in Georgia, cars don’t really rust like crazy here.

I don’t have a place for 3 cars, so it’s just a dream.

I haven’t driven either (sad face) yet, but those two engines will have very different characters. Both great, but different.

And yeah, the E90 M3 with a 6MT will be a collector’s item one day, too.

The 1M feels like a 135i with M bits sprinkled all over it. Is this a great recipe? Yes it is. The 1M is wonderful.

The M3 is all about that V8. Could they have made it faster by putting a turbo I6 in and cranking the boost to 11, yes. They didn’t. They stuffed a V8 with an 8300 RPM red line in it. The V8 wants to be revved. You have to drive it hard.

I like the character of the V8 more. The 1M is fun, but the M3 is better.

I think the car I would want that’s from this era of BMW is a Z3 or M Coupe that was updated wit this car’s engine

It was something that was sold. I considered buying a M Coupe refresh when I was shopping for cars for a while but I heard those cars had frame issues so I went in another direction. At the tmie they were selling for like $16k, this was in 2014.

I had no idea they were that cheap. I lusted after different M car, so when I bought my M car in 2014, I wasn’t looking at those.
